Our story

At Volt Technologies, we believe that small and mid-sized businesses deserve the same level of expertise, technology, and service that multi-billion dollar companies receive. Our mission is simple: to bring enterprise-grade solutions, industry best practices, and cutting-edge Microsoft technology to the SMB market.

Our story starts with a legacy of excellence — Sunrise Technologies, our parent company, built its 30-year reputation by delivering Microsoft’s most advanced ERP solutions to some of the world’s largest brands. But one of our own saw an opportunity to take that same world-class methodology and make it accessible to growing businesses.

The Foundation: Sunrise Technologies’ Legacy

Back in 1994, John Pence founded Sunrise Technologies from his dining room table, determined to create a consulting firm that specialized in delivering technology solutions with honesty, hard work, and a customer-first mindset.

Over the years, Sunrise grew into a global powerhouse, leading some of Microsoft’s largest and most complex implementations across retail, apparel, footwear, manufacturing, and distribution. Their success was built on deep industry expertise, a refined implementation methodology, and an unwavering commitment to customer success.

But there was a gap…

The Gap in the Market: The SMB Challenge

As Sunrise worked with larger enterprise customers, Mason Whitaker, a rising leader within the company, saw a growing problem:

Small and mid-sized businesses lacked access to enterprise-grade ERP solutions.
There was a disconnect between business application expertise and industry knowledge in the SMB space.
Companies were outgrowing entry-level solutions like QuickBooks and legacy systems, but their only options were expensive, overly complex ERP systems designed for massive enterprises.

Then in 2018, Microsoft introduced Dynamics 365 Business Central, a cloud-based ERP designed specifically for small and mid-sized businesses. It had enterprise-grade functionality at an affordable price.

This was the lightbulb moment…

The Birth of Volt Technologies

Recognizing the potential to fill this gap in the market, Mason Whitaker and John Pence teamed up to launch Volt Technologies — a venture that would bring Sunrise’s enterprise-level expertise, proven methodology, and best-in-class support to the SMB market.

With Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central as its foundation, Volt was built to help small to mid-sized businesses streamline operations, improve efficiency, and scale with confidence — without the complexity or cost of traditional tier-1 ERP solutions.
